Have you vowed to contribute to eco-friendly purchases in ’09?  Are you, like millions of others, glued to the zillions of “go green” articles and broadcasts that sweep the web, TV, and newspapers daily?  Do you serve up tapas at your dinner parties while explaining to your friends how and why you are building a “green lifestyle” for you and your family?  Do you ride your bike to work?  Bring your own canvas shopping bags to the grocery store?  Americans are becoming extremely educated and proactive in the ways of sustainability.  The age of excess is over.

So, what is a sustainable product?  Sustainability refers to the ability to be sustained for an indefinite period without damaging the environment, or without depleting resources. [1]   Recent studies show that in light of the grim state of the American economy, consumers are still confident in sustainable products – in fact, often opting for these products over less expensive ones for peace of mind.

The Hartman Group indicates that about 2/3 of Americans still spend on products that make them feel like they are contributing to the betterment of our country… our world.  Not to mention, "green" products are (in our opinion) far more outstanding cheaply made, synthetic ones.

Many inspired people nationwide are splurging a bit extra for personal care products, food, and appliances, while cutting back in other areas such as leisure, travel and large purchases.  For example, many prefer to buy sustainable, earth friendly products while forgoing HBO, a landline telephone… even foreign cars.  Government is environment is government in 2009 and beyond.  “Change We Can Believe In” is lending itself to the American people who have vowed to be aware of their impact on our country’s economy and systematic carbon footprint.

People are buying American.  People are buying “green.”  From buying makeup brushes made of organic fibers, to unplugging your microwave when you leave for work – there are so many small changes that we can all make and share with one another to leave a more positive impact on Earth.

Environmental efficiency, country-first buying, global warming, and other factors are finally becoming a priority to consumers this year.  Whether it is due to rising celebrity endorsements on consumer responsibility, a trend in the marketplace, or motivating words from our new President’s podium, we applaud the movement and cross our fingers that it continues after America's gloomy financial retribution.  People are ready to join the cause of bettering our future as a country and as a global presence... Yeah America!

Worldwide Skin is confident that the American people are resilient and intelligent, hopeful and proactive.  We just need to breathe deeply, and forge ahead with purpose in the way we live in our country and the world.  Breathe deeply…
